Abstract Accurate assessment and effective feedback are crucial for cultivating learners' abilities of collaborative problem‐solving and critical thinking in online inquiry‐based discussions. Based on quantitative content analysis (QCA), there has been a methodological evolvement from descriptive statistics to sequential mining and to network analysis for mining coded discourse data. Epistemic network analysis (ENA) has recently gained increasing recognition for modelling and visualizing the temporal characteristics of online discussions. However, due to methodological restraints, some valuable information regarding online discussion dynamics remains unexplained, including the directionality of connections between theoretical indicators and the trajectory of thinking development. Guided by the community of inquiry (CoI) model, this study extended generic ENA by incorporating directional connections and stanza‐based trajectory tracking. By examining the proposed extensions with discussion data of an online learning course, this study first verified that the extensions are comparable with QCA, indicating acceptable assessment validity. Then, the directional ENA revealed that two‐way connections between CoI indicators could vary over time and across groups, reflecting different discussion strategies. Furthermore, trajectory tracking effectively detected and visualized the fine‐grained progression of thinking. At the end, we summarize several research and practical implications of the ENA extensions for assessing the learning process.Practitioner notesWhat is already known about this topic Assessment and feedback are crucial for cultivating collaborative problem‐solving and critical thinking in online inquiry‐based discussions. Cognitive presence is an important construct describing the progression of thinking in online inquiry‐based discussions. Epistemic network analysis is gaining increasing recognition for modelling the temporal characteristics of online inquiries. What this paper adds Directional connections between discourses can reflect different online discussion strategies of groups and individuals. A pair of connected discourses coded with the community of inquiry model can have different meanings depending on their temporal order. A trajectory tracking approach can uncover the fine‐grained progression of thinking in online inquiry‐based discussions. Implications for practice and/or policy Besides the occurrences of individual discourses, examining the meanings of directional co‐occurrences of discourses in online discussions is worthwhile. Groups and individuals can employ different discussion strategies and follow diverse paths to thought development. Developmental assessment is crucial for understanding how participants achieve specific outcomes and providing adaptive feedback.

With the proliferation of social media, the detection of fake news has become a critical issue that poses a significant threat to society. The dissemination of fake information can lead to social harm and damage the credibility of information. To address this issue, deep learning has emerged as a promising approach, especially with the development of Natural Language Processing (NLP). This study introduces a novel approach called Graph Global Attention Network with Memory (GANM) for detecting fake news. This approach leverages NLP techniques to encode nodes with news context and user content. It employs three graph convolutional networks to extract informative features from the news propagation network and aggregates endogenous and exogenous user information. This methodology aims to address the challenge of identifying fake news within the context of social media. Innovatively, the GANM combines two strategies. First, a novel global attention mechanism with memory is employed in the GANM to learn the structural homogeneity of news propagation networks, which is the attention mechanism of a single graph with a history of all graphs. Second, we design a module for partial key information learning aggregation to emphasize the acquisition of partial key information in the graph and merge node-level embeddings with graph-level embeddings into fine-grained joint information. Our proposed method provides a new direction in news detection research with a combination of global and partial information and achieves promising performance on real-world datasets.

Abstract Considerable research has been dedicated to studying teachers' digital competence, yet limited insights have been gained regarding its impact on online teacher autonomy support. Based on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, this study utilized a multiple regression analysis model to explore how teachers' digital competence affects online teacher autonomy support. Drawing on data from 652 Chinese primary school teachers, the study revealed that teachers' digital competence positively influenced online teacher autonomy support via teachers' cognitive empathy. Teachers' emotional empathy strengthened the direct effect of cognitive empathy on online teacher autonomy support, and its indirect effect on teachers' digital competence on online teacher autonomy support. The findings inform TPACK framework development and practical considerations in online teaching, deepening understanding of the impact of digital competence on online teacher autonomy support.Practitioner notesWhat is already known about this topic Previous research has recognized the importance of teachers' digital competence in supporting learners' autonomy and enhancing their online learning experiences. Existing studies have explored different dimensions of teachers' digital competence, including technological proficiency, pedagogical knowledge and content expertise. Studies have also examined the role of empathy in online teaching and learning, emphasizing its importance in fostering positive teacher–student relationships and promoting student engagement and motivation. What this paper adds This study introduces digital competence as a novel and comprehensive assessment of technology integration in teaching, bridging an existing gap in the literature. This study recognizes the importance of socio‐emotional skills in online teaching by including teachers' empathic traits within the expanded TPACK framework. Teachers' cognitive empathy acts as a mediator and emotional empathy functions as a moderator in the relationship between digital competence and online teacher autonomy support, offering new insights into the underlying mechanisms. Implications for practice and/or policy Teacher educators should find ways to support teachers' digital competence in facilitating learners' autonomy in online learning environments effectively. Teacher educators should incorporate teacher empathy development into teachers' professional development programmes for online teaching, offering tailored interventions to differentiate and enhance both cognitive and emotional empathy.

Land cover mapping is crucial for natural resource assessment, urban planning, and sustainable development. Land cover nomenclature often includes two or three hierarchical levels with tree-like hierarchical structures. This study aims to explore these hierarchical relationships and the potential of hierarchical semantic segmentation for land cover mapping. We propose a hierarchical semantic segmentation architecture by taking advantage of dual U-shaped network, named as HierU-Net. The coarse-level result is ingested to the fine-level segmentation functioned as soft constraints. The propagation of error will not be certain. Moreover, we employ a multitask loss function weighted by homoscedastic uncertainty to optimize the training. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we create a hierarchical semantic segmentation dataset (HierToulouse), which contains 11 528 samples, including images and land cover labels at two hierarchical levels. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach is capable of achieving accurate land cover segmentation at both coarse and fine levels, with segmentation results surpassing those obtained using the flat method.

This investigation delves into the pervasive yet insufficiently examined phenomenon of "cyberloafing", characterized by employees engaging in non-work-related internet activities during office hours. Despite its frequent occurrence in contemporary work environments, the fundamental mechanisms underpinning cyberloafing remain largely uncharted. This study uses the conservation of resources theory and the cognitive-affective personality system framework to demystify the relationship between role stress and cyberloafing. We developed a dual-path model to assess the mediating roles of perceived insider status and emotional exhaustion. Employing SPSS and Smart PLS for data analysis, our research sampled 210 corporate employees. The findings reveal that role stress predicts perceived insider status and emotional exhaustion significantly. Notably, while perceived insider status negatively correlates with cyberloafing, emotional exhaustion shows a positive correlation. These factors mediate the relationship between role stress and cyberloafing, underscoring a multifaceted dynamic. Our results provide new theoretical insights into the mechanisms of employee counterproductive behavior, specifically in the context of cyberloafing, and broaden our understanding of its determinants. This study illuminates theoretical nuances and offers practical implications for managerial strategies and future scholarly inquiries into organizational behavior.

Elevation is an uplifting feeling evoked by witnessing other’s moral beauty. Prior studies explored the impact of different aspects of completed moral acts on elevation. However, whether intended or completed moral acts have a greater impact on observers’ elevation remains unclear. We hypothesize that intended moral acts evoke greater elevation in observers than completed ones. A total of 437 Chinese participants rated their elevation after reading manipulated descriptions about actors’ moral acts in three online experiments. The results consistently supported our hypothesis. Moreover, the results of moderated mediation models showed that actors’ moral potential mediated the effect of moral acts on elevation. Female observers exhibited stronger responses to intended moral acts than male observers. In addition, observers’ elevation influenced their willingness to cooperate with the actors. Implications for elevation elicitation and future directions are discussed.

The intrinsic roadblocks for designing promising Pt-based oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts emanate from the strong scaling relationship and activity-stability-cost trade-offs. Here, a carbon-supported Pt nanoparticle and a Mn single atom (Pt(NP)-Mn(SA)/C) as in situ constructed Pt(NP)-Mn(SA) pairs are demonstrated to be an efficient catalyst to circumvent the above seesaws with only ∼4 wt % Pt loadings. Experimental and theoretical investigations suggest that Mn(SA) functions not only as the "assist" for Pt sites to cooperatively facilitate the dissociation of O(2) due to the strong electronic polarization, affording the dissociative pathway with reduced H(2)O(2) production, but also as an electronic structure "modulator" to downshift the d-band center of Pt sites, alleviating the overbinding of oxygen-containing intermediates. More importantly, Mn(SA) also serves as a "stabilizer" to endow Pt(NP)-Mn(SA)/C with excellent structural stability and low Fenton-like reactivity, resisting the fast demetalation of metal sites. As a result, Pt(NPs)-Mn(SA)/C shows promising ORR performance with a half-wave potential of 0.93 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode and a high mass activity of 1.77 A/mg(Pt) at 0.9 V in acid media, which is 19 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C and only declines by 5% after 80,000 potential cycles. Specifically, Pt(NPs)-Mn(SA)/C reaches a power density of 1214 mW/cm(2) at 2.87 A/cm(2) in an H(2)-O(2) fuel cell.

The conversation machine comprehension (MC) task aims to answer questions in the multi-turn conversation for a single passage. However, recent approaches don’t exploit information from historical conversations effectively, which results in some references and ellipsis in the current question cannot be recognized. In addition, these methods do not consider the rich semantic relationships between words when reasoning about the passage text. In this paper, we propose a novel model GraphFlow+, which constructs a context graph for each conversation turn and uses a unique recurrent graph neural network (GNN) to model the temporal dependencies between the context graphs of each turn. Specifically, we exploit three different ways to construct text graphs, including the dynamic graph, static graph, and hybrid graph that combines the two. Our experiments on CoQA, QuAC and DoQA show that the GraphFlow+ model can outperform the state-of-the-art approaches.

The discovery of safe, effective, and selective chemical algicides is the stringent need for the algicides development, and it is also one of the effective routes to control cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms and to meet the higher requirements of environmental and ecological. In this work, a series of novel bromo-N-phenyl-5-ohydroxyphenylpyrazole-3-carboxyamides were rationally designed as pseudilin analogs by bioisosteric replacement and molecular hybridization strategies, in which the pyrrole unit of pseudilin was replaced with pyrazole and further combined with the dominant structural fragments of algicide diuron. The synthesis was carried out by a facile four-step routeincluding cyclization, amidation, transanulation, and halogenation. The biological activity evaluation on AtIspD, EcIspD, Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 and Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB905 revealed that most compounds had good EcIspD and excellent cyanobacteria inhibitory activity. In particular, compound 6bb exhibited potent algicidal activity against PCC6803 and FACHB905 with EC50 = 1.28 mu M and 0.37 mu M, respectively, 1.4-fold and 4.0-fold enhancement compared to copper sulfate (EC50 = 1.79 and 1.49 mu M, respectively), and it also showed the best inhibitory activity of EcIspD. The binding of 6bb to EcIspD was explored by molecular docking, and it was confirmed that 6bb could bind to the EcIspD active site. Compound 6bb was proven to be a potential structure for the further development of novel algicides that targets IspD in the MEP pathway.

An iodine-mediated cyclization has been developed to 4-aryl-NH-1,2,3-triazoles, with p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazide and sulfamic acid used as nitrogen sources. Sulfamic acid plays a crucial role in this reaction by both acting as a substrate and providing an acidic environment. This reaction offers a metal- and azide-free strategy to access NH-1,2,3-triazoles.

With the rapid development of IoT technology, smart homes have emerged. At the same time, data security and privacy protection are also of great concern. However, the traditional centralized authentication scheme has defects such as single point of failure, poor scalability, center dependence, vulnerability to attacks, etc., and is not suitable for the distributed and dynamically changing smart home environment. Thus, many researchers have proposed decentralized authentication schemes based on blockchain technology. Although many characteristics of blockchain technology such as decentralization, non -tampering, and solving single point of failure have good application scenarios in authentication, the mature integration of the two applications has to be further explored. For example, the introduction of blockchain also brings security issues; the balance between security and performance in most blockchain-based authentication schemes remains to be investigated; and resource -constrained IoT devices tend to perform a large number of intensive computations, which is clearly inappropriate. Consequently, this paper introduces fog computing in blockchain-based authentication schemes, proposes a network architecture in which cloud and fog computing work together, and investigates the security and performance issues of authentication schemes under this architecture. Finally, formal and informal security analysis show that our scheme has multiple security properties, and our scheme has better performance than existing solutions.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the frontier, science, and public engagement of educational science research. This paper conducted a systematic literature review of 101 educational science research articles published in Nature and Science in 1982-2021 based on the Web of Science database and analyzed the current status of research in terms of basic publication characteristics, research themes, and research processes. Five research topics were recognized, namely, education policy evaluation and reform, learning mechanisms and learning interventions, science education, educational technology, and education equity. Content of each topic had a distinctive emphasis. Findings revealed that most studies were dominated by empirical research, involving causal relationships between various educational phenomena, diverse range of research subjects, rigorous scientific randomized experiments, and quantitative analysis. We encourage more research on educational science in the future from four feasible directions, namely, developing active learning approaches to promoting effective learning, extending the research subjects and objectives of science education, conducting long-term, large-scale and practice-oriented research, and introducing new research methods into educational research.

We investigate the azimuthal angle dependent local hydrodynamic helicity polarization of Λ hyperons, defined as the projection of the spin polarization vector along the directions of particle momenta, at BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider beam energy scan energies by utilizing the relativistic ( 3+1 )D CLVisc hydrodynamics framework with SMASH initial conditions. As opposed to local spin polarization at high energy collisions, our hydrodynamic simulations demonstrate that the azimuthal angle dependent helicity polarization induced by the kinetic vorticity dominates over other contributions at intermediate and low collision energies. Our findings provide an opportunity to probe the fine structure of local kinetic vorticity as a function of azimuthal angle at intermediate and low collision energies by mapping our predictions to the future measurements in experiments.
