Vinylpyridine- and vinylnitrobenzene-coating tetraphenylethenes: Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior and mechanochromic property

摘要:
Two functional tetraphenylethylene derivatives modified by vinylpyridine and vinylnitrobenzene, respectively, were synthesized by Heck coupling reaction. Their optical behaviors were investigated. The results showed they had AIE activity in solution. The property in solid state displayed that both of them had reversible mechanochromism. Upon grinding, their fluorescence spectra showed around 13–40 nm red-shift, and could return to the original state after solvent fuming. We believe that this work will be helpful for the design of stimuli-responsive materials in future. © 2018 The Author

Two related three-membered series of nonlinear aminophenylferrocene and diphenylaminoferrocene complexes were prepared and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The first series consists of 4-(diphenylamino)phenylferrocene (TPA-Fc, 1a), its dimethoxy-substituted tetraphenylphenylenediamine derivative (M2TPPD-Fc, 1c), and the triphenylamine-bridged bis(ferrocenyl) complex (Fc-TPA-Fc, 1b). The second series involves bis(4-methoxyphenyl)aminoferrocene (M2DPA-Fc, 1d), 4-methoxyphenylaminoferrocene (MPA-Fc) with N-phenyl-appended terminal TPA (1e), and the corresponding bis(MPA-Fc) complex with bridging TPA (1f). The structure of complex 1d was further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Combined investigations, based on anodic voltammetry, UV-vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, were conducted to illustrate the influence of the integration of multiple redox-active components on the sequential oxidation of these complexes. The first anodic steps in 1a-1f are localized preferentially on the ferrocenyl units, followed by oxidation of the TPA or TPPD moieties (absent in 1d). Irreversible oxidation of the ferrocene-appended strong donor DPA/MPA units in 1d-1f terminates the anodic series. The one-electron oxidation of the triphenylamine-bridged diferrocenyl (1b) and bis(phenylaminoferrocenyl) (1f) complexes triggers their facile redox disproportionation to dicationic bis(ferrocenium) products. © 2018 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Diarylamine-substituted osmanaphthalyne complexes that feature two redox centers linked by the rigid skeleton of the metallacycle (C^C + ), specifically, [OsCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 {(C^C + )NAr 2 }][BF 4 − ] (Ar=Ph (1 a), p-MeOPh (1 b)) and their open-ring precursors [OsHCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 {(≡C−C(PPh 3 + )=CHPh)NR 2 }][BF 4 − ] (Ar=Ph (2 a), p-MeOPh (2 b)), were successfully synthesized and characterized by 1 H, 13 C, and 31 P NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, and elemental analysis. The solid-state molecular structures of complexes 1 a and 2 a were ascertained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Os≡C bond length in both complexes 1 a and 2 a fell within the range reported for similar osmanaphthalynes and osmium carbyne complexes, respectively. The structural parameters determined for complex 1 a, which were successfully reproduced by theoretical calculations, point to a π-delocalized metallacycle structure. The purple color of compounds 1 a and b was explained by the diarylamine→Os(metallacycle) charge-transfer absorption in the visible region. The neutral, one-electron-oxidized and one-electron-reduced states of compounds 1 a, b, and a reference complex that lacked the diarylamine substituent, [OsCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 {(C^C + )}][BF 4 − ] (1′), were investigated by cyclic and square-wave voltammetry, UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemistry, and DFT calculations. The spin density in singly oxidized complexes [1 a] + and [1 b] + predominantly resided on the aminyl segment, with osmium involvement controlled by the diphenylamine substitution. Spin density in stable, singly-reduced [1′] − was distributed mainly over the osmanaphthalyne metallacycle. © 2018 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

摘要:
Glutathione (GSH) plays a key role in many cellular functions. Abnormal levels of GSH is considered to be sign of many diseases. As a result, various fluorescent imaging probes and/or chemosensors for GSH have been developed. Compared to other analytical methods, fluorescence has unique merits, such as excellent detection limits and sensitivity for use in imaging cells, tissues and small animals. However, colorimetric probes undergo distinct color changes, which in most cases can be detected by using the naked eye. This review of studies aimed at the development of GSH probes is presented in a format that is organized by structural features and chemical reactions of the probes. The topics include probes that are based on nanoparticles or nanocomposites, metal ion displacement and coordination and chemical reactions. The reaction based probes are further classified into probes that undergo cleavage of sulphonamide, sulfonate ester and related functional groups, Se–N bond cleavage, aryl substitution reactions, disulfide bond cleavage followed by cyclization, Michael additions, and other processes. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

Two naphthalimide-based fluorescent probes containing a thiomorpholine (Np-NS) or a sulfoxide-morpholine (Np-NSO) component are reported. The morpholine unit of non-fluorescent Np-NS and Np-NSO can transform into sulphone-morpholine and be accompanied by blue fluorescence upon oxidative stress, ascribed to the formation of sulphone-morpholine on probes. This sensing behavior displays that they can selectively respond to glutathione to generate a green emission by a sulfonamide-based detection moiety both in vitro and in living cells. Interestingly, the different oxidation states of a sulphur atom on a thiomorpholine ring can be utilized to regulate responsiveness of these probes towards glutathione. Such an oxidation strategy would provide a possibility for enhancing the response rate.

摘要:
A novel off-on fluorescent probe, developed for imaging the hypoxic status of tumor cells by means of detecting nitroreductase (NTR), consisted of a naphthalimide fluorophore and 4-Nitrobenzyl chloroformate as exogenous hypoxia markers. The detection mechanism is based on the fact that nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) is utilized by nitroreductase as an electron source to reduce nitroaromatics to corresponding amino derivatives. The fluorescence of probe displays distinct change from very weak fluorescence to strong green fluorescence at 550 nm after reaction with NTR. The fluorescence intensity increase of probe shows a good linearity when the concentration of NTR is in the range of 0.1-0.3 mu g/mL. The probe shows significant specificity with NTR and good biocompatibility. The result of laser confocal fluorescence imaging confirmed that probe can successfully differentiate normoxic (non-fluorescent) from hypoxic conditions (strong green fluorescence) in U87 cell lines. All the results demonstrate that our probe is a promising optical imaging candidate for tumor hypoxia and can be potentially used for the detection of hypoxic-ischemic diseases. 摘要:
Metal ions play important roles in various industrial and biochemical processes. Some metal ions are essential for the survival of humans, animals and plants. However, some metal ions are toxic and hence cause serious health and environmental problems. Because of these features, the detection of metal ions is of great importance. In this review, we summarize various NIR fluorescence probes for metal ions that have been developed in recent years. Additionally, this review includes some personal perspective and insight into how and where this field is progressing and key challenges to be overcome in the future. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. 摘要:
A naphthalimide-based ratiometric fluorescent probe for determining glutathione (GSH) was constructed by installing two oxidized morpholine (e.g. thiomorpholine-S-dioxide and morpholine-N-oxide) components on the “off-to-on” GSH probe. This probe displayed high selectivity towards GSH. As well, the bioimaging application confirmed that this probe was capable of acting as an indicator to monitor the intracellular GSH. Thus, this work provides a promising strategy to construct the ratiometric fluorescent probe. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

A difluorobenzothiadiazole-based fluorescent material with a D-π-A-π-D structure exhibits a reversible mechanofluorochromic characteristic in the solid state. Its red fluorescent emission switches to near-infrared fluorescence upon mechanical stimulation, but recover after fuming the ground solid powder with dichloromethane. © 2018 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. ABSTRACT Functionalized graphene oxide-modified poly(ε-caprolactone) composites ((graphene oxide)GO/PCL) were successfully synthesized by Steglich esterification for drug applications of controlled release. Lomefloxacin (LMF) was selected as a model drug to investigate its controlled release properties. The controlled release effect of the LMF-contained pills of the GO/PCL and polylactic acid blend was evaluated. In contrast to the pure PCL, GO/PCL could effectively adjust the time of drug release and release the drug at a constant rate, achieving the controlled release requirements. Furthermore, different additive amounts of graphene oxide have different effects on adjusting the time of controlled release, while the best result obtained under the ratio is 4% GO/PCL as carrier of drug. Thus, high-quality drug carrier materials are obtained which are more suitable for clinical use. Exploring the optimum addition of graphene oxide is very significant for the development of GO/PCL carrier material. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

Mechanically interlocked structures such as rotaxanes and catenanes provide a novel backbone for constructing functional materials with unique structural characteristics. In this study, the novel photoswitchable [n]rotaxanes 11 and 12 based on dithienylethene unit were efficiently synthesized by the classical template-directed clipping approach. And their structures were well-confirmed by NMR, MS and elemental analysis. Investigation on photochromic properties indicated that dithienylethene-based [n]rotaxanes had good reversibility and excellent fatigue resistance upon irradiation with UV or visible light. And they displayed also excellent fluorescence switchable behavior. Interestingly, It was found that [2]rotaxane 11 had better photoisomerization properties in comparison to its corresponding macrocycle 4, which indicated that the non-covalent components on the [2]rotaxane 11 could influence the photoswitching properties. Furthermore, the mechanically interlocked molecules containing two dithienylethene backbones displayed around a 2-fold increase in the molar absorption coefficient compared with that of the mono dithienylethene derivative, which was consistent with the reported [n]rotaxane 9 and 10. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Five novel cationic cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes of type [(CˆC)IrX(PPh<inf>3</inf>)<inf>2</inf>(dmbpy)]A (X = halogen;dmbpy = 4,4′-dimethoxy-2,2′-bipyridine;A = counterion) were synthesised and characterised. Complexes 1–3 ([(CˆC)IrCl(PPh<inf>3</inf>)<inf>2</inf>(dmbpy)]A) have different anions (A = Cl<sup>−</sup>, CF<inf>3</inf>SO<inf>3</inf><sup>−</sup>, PF<inf>6</inf><sup>−</sup>) and complexes 4–5 ([(CˆC)IrX(PPh<inf>3</inf>)<inf>2</inf>(dmbpy)]PF<inf>6</inf>) have different halogen ligands (X = Br<sup>−</sup>, I<sup>−</sup>). Changing either the counter anion or halogen ligand altered the photophysical properties of the complexes. Interestingly, complex 1 (X = Cl, A = Cl<sup>−</sup>) did not exhibit mechanochromism, while the other four complexes all displayed mechanochromic properties. Crystal structures were determined for all compounds, and two types of single crystals are obtained for compounds 4 and 5. All complexes displayed bright solid-state phosphorescence, and reversible room-temperature mechanochromic luminescence was observed for complexes 2–5. The mechanism of the mechanochromic behaviour was investigated by combining powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.<br/> ©2018 Elsevier Ltd

A series of nitrophenyl substituted carbazole derivatives [9-(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (1), 3,9-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (2), 9-methyl-3,6-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (3), 9-ethyl-3,6-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (4), 9-butyl-3,6-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (5), 9-hexyl-3,6-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-9H-carbazole (6)] bearing D-π-A systems were prepared and their photophysical properties were investigated comparatively and systematically. Compounds 1, 2, 5 and 6 exhibited obvious aggregation-induced emission properties in DMF/water mixtures and aggregate formation endued them bright luminescence. The elongation of the N-substituted alkyl chains leads to an obvious hypochromatic shift of solid-state fluorescence for compounds 3–6. Specifically, compound 6 showed mechanochromic property involving a reversible interconversion between crystalline form and amorphous phase by mechanical grinding and dichloromethane vapor fuming. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
Selective and efficient detection and imaging of nitroreductase (NTR) overexpressed in hypoxic tissues is of great importance for better understanding its biological functions. The effective optical probes equipped for NTR detection in vivo is still lacking, so we developed an innovative near infrared (NIR) fluorescent on-off probe (Cy-NO2) composed of fluorescence reporting unit (an aminocyaine dye) and recognition unit (p-nitrobenzylcarbamate group). The response and mechanism of the NTR activated reduction of Cy-NO2 were evaluated in vitro through kinetic optical studies, mass spectra analysis and docking calculations. The results demonstrated that Cy-NO2 could rapidly recognize NTR with high selectivity and sensitivity. The efficient NTR detection ability of Cy7-NO2 was further validated by fluorescence imaging of hypoxic cells (A549, PC-12 and HUVEC cell). Furthermore, the in vivo hypoxia imaging by Cy-NO2 were evaluated on tumor-bearing mouse, cerebral ischemia (CIS) and deep vein thrombosis models. The results indicated a rapid and distinct enhancement of its NIR fluorescence highly appropriate for in vivomonitoring of NTR in all of the three animal models, which revealed aspiring clinical value of this NIR fluorescent hypoxia probe.

摘要:
Glutathione is a major endogenous antioxidant in biological systems. As a result, highly selective fluorescent probes are significant components of studies aimed at gaining a better understanding of the role(s) glutathione plays in biological functions. In this study, we developed a dual-channel turn-on fluorescent probe for glutathione, comprising naphthalimide and cyanine, bridged by a thiol-reactive sulfonamide moiety. The probe selectively responds to glutathione and is not affected by cysteine and homocysteine. Important information has been gained about the chemical mechanism for operation of the probe, which responds to glutathione in visible and near-infrared channels synchronously and independently. Moreover, this probe exhibits the remarkable capability of targeting mitochondria and dual-channel tracking of intracellular glutathione in a spatiotemporal and synchronous manner. We believe that the strategy used to design the new dual-channel fluorescence-on probe will be applicable to the design of fluorescent probes that display specific responses in multiple channels.

摘要:
Organic chromic materials that respond to external stimuli, especially in the solid state, have sparked extensive interest owing to their potential use as smart materials. In particular, the availability of chromic materials, which emit fluorescence or phosphorescence in the deep penetrating, near-infrared (NIR) region, has led to great improvements in imaging. Various methods that were commonly applied to construct chromic materials, have been reformed to develop the novel type of compounds, and some have received rewards with excellent fingdings. Relevant research achievements of practical applications have showed their potential with the changes that locate in the NIR region, while further in-depth explorations about the inherent chromic chromism are underway. In this review, several representative studies, which have led the development of responsive organic chromic materials with near-infrared emission, will be discussed. © 2018 The Author

摘要:
Herein, we describe a novel, green, and efficient synthesis of a series of different substituted osmanaphthalynes (including -H, -Br, -I, -CH3 and -CF3) and the first examples of the preparation of α-osmaanthracyne and α-osmaphenanthryne by means of a visible light-induced intramolecular cyclization reaction of their corresponding osmium hydrido alkenylcarbyne complexes. This visible-light-driven method provides an efficient and straightforward approach to afford the desired fused metal heterocyclic complexes constructed with an Os atom as the metal center in high yield under mild conditions. © 2018 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Five novel gold(I) complexes with various isocyanide ligands have been synthesized and characterized in present work. The introduction of different terminal ligands endows distinct diverse properties to complexes 1–5: i) alkyl modified complexes 1–3 exhibit tricolor or bicolor mechanochromic behaviors due to the loosing packing formed through weak intermolecular C–H···F interactions, while aryl bridged complexes 4 and 5 are not mechano-responsive with tight π-π stackings; ii) all the target complexes present prominent but different aggregation-induced emission(AIE) characteristics caused by the inherent difference in their structures. Therefore, the above gold(I) complexes are anticipated to be used as fluorescent detectors and mechanosensors. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
We propose and demonstrate a novel molecular design strategy to develop supramolecular fluorescent viscosity probes. Our new probes are constructed based on host-guest chemistry, in which the guest fluorophore itself is not a viscosity sensor. However, upon complexation with the host molecule, the resulted supramolecule exhibits unusual intermolecular charge transfer between the host and guest molecules. This intermolecular charge transfer drives molecular rotations and suppresses fluorescence output. As solvent viscosity increases from 1.1 cP to 612.6 cP, hindering molecular rotations leads to considerable fluorescence intensification by up to 21 times in our probes. Our design strategy opens a new avenue for developing fluorescent viscosity sensors.
