Fourteen novel 3-substituted-5-methyl-4-methylene-7-alkylsulfanyl-3,4-dihydro-pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine-8-carbonitriles, compounds 4a–n, were designed and synthesized via a facile regioselective cyclization process. The intermediate 2 reacted with triethyl orthoformate (molar ratio is 1:4) in the presence of acetic anhydride to give formamidate 3, which was cycled to 4 regioselectively upon addition of different amines at mild condition. The structures of compounds 4a–n were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, MS and elemental analysis. The preliminary bioassay indicated that some compounds possess significant herbicidal activity against the roots of rape and barnyard grass, especially when the fluorine atom was introduced to the para position of the substitutents on pyrimidine ring; some compounds showed fungicidal activities against Rhizoctonia solani, Botrytis cinereapers, Gibberella zeae, Dothiorella gregaria, Colletotrichum gossypii as well, and the introduction of fluorine has negative effect on the antifungal activities.

Five new xanthones, namely Garcinexanthones A-E (1-5), were isolated from the barks of Garcinia xanthochymus. Their structures were elucidated by spectral analysis, primarily NMR, MS, and UV. The complete assignments of the H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR chemical shifts for the compounds were achieved by using D-1 and D-2 NMR techniques, including DEPT, HSQC, and HMBC NMR experiments. A new and facile route to synthesize 2-substituted pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones derivatives using iminophosphorane from easily obtained starting materials was investigated and expanded.

Phosphorus-containing agrochemicals have made a major contribution to the advancement of agriculture in China. Current status about production and usages of organophosphorus agrochemicals in China is reviewed in this article. Development of new organophosphorus agrochemicals including insecticide, herbicide, and anti-TMV agent in recent years is introduced. Recent progress in research and development of α -(Substituted phenoxyacetoxy)alkylphosphonates is then described: α -(Substituted phenoxyacetoxy)alkylphosphonate II as a kind of potential agrochemicals was found on the basis of the study of a series of α -oxophosphonic acid derivatives I in our Lab. Some compounds II were demonstrated as effective inhibitors of pyruvate dehydrogenase complex from plant (in vitro) and showed notable herbicidal activity against broad-leaved weeds. Compound HW02 as a potential herbicide was evaluated and developed.

In the title compound, [Ir(C10H8N3)(C11H8N)2], the Ir center is octa-hedrally coordinated by the three chelating ligands, with two cyclo-metalated 2-pyridylphenyl ligands [Ir - N = 2.049 (5) and 2.030 (5) Å; Ir - C = 2.016 (6) and 2.012 (6) Å] and a bidentate 2-(phenyl-diazen-yl)pyrrolate ligand [Ir - N = 2.204 (5) and 2.079 (5) Å]. The Ir - N(diazen-yl) bond is longer than the Ir - N(pyrrolate) bond. The structure is stabilized by aromatic π-π stacking, the shortest parallel distance between ring centroids being 3.426 (8) Å..

Fourteen of phosphonates containing quinoline were synthesized and the preliminary bioassay indicated that these compounds exhibited a little better fungicidal and lower herbicidal activities than the starting compound Quinclorac.

In the title compound, C4H12N+center dot C11H12Cl2O6P-center dot C3H6O, all bond lengths and angles are normal. Three ammonium H atoms participate in N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, which stabilize the crystal packing along with weak intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O interactions.

Eighteen novel 5-alkylamino-6-aryl-3-phenyl-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydrothiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidin-7(6H)-ones 5a-r were designed and easily synthesized via a tandem aza-Wittig reaction. Treatment of iminophosphorane 2 with aromatic isocyanate gave carbodiimide 3, which reacted with fluoro-substituted alkylamines to provide the title compounds in 65-87% isolated yields using sodium ethoxide as catalyst. All compounds 5 were confirmed by IR, H-1 NMR, MS and elemental analysis, and compound 5p was further analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The preliminary bioassay indicated that some compounds showed significant inhibition activities against the root growth of rape and barnyard grass at a dosage of 100 mg/L. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
