Learning spaces are gradually developing for supporting self-regulated learning. The availability of learning and movement data in classroom teaching, outdoor learning and campus environments has been enhanced, owing to the emergence of wearable technologies. Consequently, the learning analytics technology for the physical spaces is emerging at the right moment. Learning spaces are facing profound transformations under the educational development of "human-technology" co-evolution, the learning support services in physical spaces thus need to be reshaped urgently. In recent years, researchers have focused on using sensor technology to collect learners' physiological and behavioral data, combining learning analytics to infer their emotional states, and adopting appropriate intervention mechanisms to improve the positive emotional arousal and academic success. First, this paper introduces some concepts related to the perception of academic emotions in physical spaces. Then the main methods and typical cases are pointed out. Specifically, our aim was to reveal the research status and development trend of emotion perception in physical spaces under the learning analytics fields and to provide a novel insight for the future reshaping of the physical learning spaces.

摘要:
Education through AI has become a consensus in the educational technology community, in which learning performance prediction and classification are two popular tasks for educational data mining. Researchers investigated into different methodologies of machine learning according to their tasks. Often used methodologies are "Linear Regression, Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines, Naive Bayes Classifier, and Decision Trees". Our analysis in this paper has shown that Support Vector Machines are less used than Neural Networks in the area of educational data mining. Although Support Vector Machines perform better in some investigations, there is a limited usage of it. We discuss several theses to find reasons for the occurring gap. Therefore, we focus on handling, Neural Networks as a trend topic, data and pre-processing, complexity of modeling, training and prediction speed, and problems of overfitting. Findings show that Support Vector Machines can be used by applying an acceptable effort. Their advantages were discussed regarding the challenges of educational technology.

摘要:
This paper presents an algorithm for reading two digital video clocks of broadcast basketball videos by using context-aware pixel periodicity method and deep learning technique. Reading two digital video clocks is a very challenge problem as a difficulty special case of reading video text. The first challenge task is the clock digit localization. The existing pixel periodicity is a very good method for localizing second-digit place if a single clock is in video, but it is not applicable to localizing two second-digit places. This paper proposes a context-aware pixel periodicity method to identify the second-pixels of each clock based on the domain knowledge of digital video clocks. The second challenge task is clock-digit recognition. For this task, the CNN-based procedures are proposed to recognize clock digits. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve 100% of accuracy in both localization and recognition for two clocks at very low computational cost by using very short input clips.

Live video streaming process consumes very large data storage and takes very long time, so it requires big data storage and computing infrastructures for implementation. Accordingly, the use of cloud computing is becoming a common practice solution for streaming service providers. This work proposes a new scheme to manage the quality of experience (QoE) for live video streaming viewers, aimed directly at cloud computing environments. This scheme proposes to make optimal usage of cloud computing resources and quality services to meet the quality of experience (QoE) requirements of the live video streaming viewers without considering another cost to the video service provider. We examine the user’s quality of experience using dynamic adaptive streaming HTTP (DASH) technique. Then, we present and derive three important performance indicators which effect on viewer’s QoE namely: startup delay, deadline time (time nulling including null duration and number of null time), and bit rate level variations. The simulation results show that the tested indication parameters do not need to access the service providers in order to manage QoE of viewers neither do not need to insert them into the video streaming client software to determine the user experience in live video streaming. So, we believe that our proposed scheme and the performance indicators that studied in our work can serve as useful and light-weight tools for live video streaming service provider to monitor and control their quality of services.

Precise parallax detection through definition evaluation and the adjustment of the assembly position of the objective lens or the reticle are important means of eliminating the parallax of the telescope system, so that the imaging screen and the reticle are clearly focused at the same time. An adaptive definition evaluation function based on Susan-Zernike moments is proposed. First, the image is preprocessed by the Susan operator to find the potential boundary edge. Then, the Zernike moments operator is used to determine the exact region of the reticle line with sub-pixel accuracy. The image definition is evaluated only in this related area. The evaluation function consists of the gradient difference calculated by the Zernike moments operator. By adjusting the assembly position of the objective lens, the imaging screen and the reticle will be simultaneously in the state of maximum definition, so the parallax can be eliminated. The experimental results show that the definition evaluation function proposed in this paper has the advantages of good focusing performance, strong anti-interference ability compared with the other commonly used definition evaluation functions.

A total of 1326 papers with full bibliographic records were retrieved from Web of Science database as the sample. CiteSpaceV was used to conduct visualization analysis to build knowledge map by identifying the representative countries, research hotspots, evolution path and research frontiers in the field of information literacy.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) trade deep and intimate tutor-tutee interactions for large-scale coverage of educational lectures. Therefore, a proper length of student-assistant discussion is particularly precious both for the questioner and the observers in MOOC communities. To investigate the concept conveying characteristics of long and short discussions, this paper collected 32 student-assistant discussion transcripts in MOOC communities. Each discussion thread was randomly chosen in one course. Besides, 32 questions-and-answers (Q&A) transcripts in different science lectures and 31 Q&A transcripts in different press briefings were collected as comparison groups. The nouns in these transcripts were extracted as concepts, and the concept conveying procedure was modelled into a directed graph. We found that if an assistant would like to prolong the discussion in MOOC communities, he or she needs to retain concepts closely connected like political spokesmen on press briefings, and apply properly deep concepts like senior scientists on science lectures.

摘要:
With the proposal of “China’s students’ development core qualities”, the new period puts forward higher requirements for students’ innovative spirit and practical ability. Problem solving, as one of the qualities needed for practical innovation, occupies an important position, and there is very little research on instructional design to improve student problem-solving skills from the perspective of teachers. At the same time, with the continuous development of new technologies such as big data and internet of things, teacher education must also follow the trend. Teachers need to think about how to reshape and grow professionally in the wave of education reform. This article selects a junior high school geography teacher as the research object and tries to construct a teaching design strategy that aims at the cultivation of students’ problem solving skills. There are situation-constructed strategy, task-driven strategy, and thinking-inspired strategy, and based on these strategies we create an aided analysis table and an teaching design evaluation scale, so as to provide valuable reference for teachers’ teaching design, and improve students’ problem-solving abilities.

摘要:
Hypergeometric distribution is one of the most important mathematical models in probabilistic subjects, and also an integral part of the intelligent tutoring system based on automatic machine solving. In this paper, we propose a set of solutions to automatically solve the Hypergeometric distribution problems. Our method combines the syntactic and semantic information of the subject, establishes the matching rule between the topic narration and the type template, and implement the problem solving by establishing the solution formula corresponding to the topic, as well as extracting and complementing the corresponding problem data. Experiments conducted on a dataset which collected from the Internet and College Entrance Examination questions over the years demonstrate the feasibility of our method.

With the explosion of learning data in online educational platforms, many educators and researchers have developed a keen interest in learning analytics, in which social network analysis (SNA) and sentiment analysis are the two critical methods for exploring collective learning processes. In this study, we extracted textual data from the discussion forum of a "contract law" course in a university learning platform. We examined the differences in distributions of males and females in the overall sociogram. As well, through calculating learners' social characteristics and sentiment densities across a semester, we explored the relationship among social characteristics, sentiments and learning outcomes. The experimental results showed that females tended to be more active than males in forum interactions, and high-performing learners participated more actively in interactions than did low-performing learners. Moreover, there was a strong positive correlation between confusion and learning outcomes. As well, the learners who were involved actively in discussions were more likely to express the confused sentiment.

In recent years, a growing number of educational researchers are keen to utilize social network analysis (SNA) and emotion detection for exploring collective learning states. Students' emotions and interaction characteristics before the exam typically suggest some significant traces of learning states. In this study, data from the discussion forum of "Chinese legal history" course in a university learning platform was used to investigate evolutionary trends of students' network characteristics and emotion densities (EDs) in the last four weeks before the final exam, as well as visualized the distribution of the high-EDs (including positivity, negativity and confusion) students in the weekly network. Empirical analyses suggested that, as the exam approaches, learners' network structure and emotional densities are constantly changing. After experiencing a smooth change in the first two weeks, the average degree centrality reached a peak in the third week, and confusion emotional density far exceeded positive and negative emotional density in the last week, which may help in identifying the potential academic losers and providing timely interventions.

This study describes an overview of the effects of flipped classroom instruction on students' learning outcomes and provides direction for future research on this topic. The Web of Science was used to search for research and 22 relevant articles were identified [1-22]. The content analysis method was employed to examine the selected articles. The results showed that flipped classroom instruction can positively influence students' cognitive, affective, and self-regulated learning. Flipping the classroom can not only practice students' problem-solving and independent study abilities, but also provide students with a positive attitude toward learning.

The dramatic growth in the availability and capability of ICT has not only revolutionised the speed and the nature of global education, but also contributed to the regional differences in education informatization. This article makes a study, which sought to establish the existence or otherwise of digital divide with respect to the five dimensions of ICT in education in terms of development index and difference contribution rate. A total of 5287 schools in Hubei province were surveyed, which are scattered in 14 prefecture-level cities. The results show that both the ICT infrastructure and guarantee mechanism had higher-level development but lower-level difference in the five dimensions. Similarly, the digital resource and application service have a higher regional differences but the development of application efficiency is of low-level development. The results provide a good reference for practitioners, especially the policy planners and makers, to deploy ICT policies in narrowing the regional disparities of ICT in education.

This study focused on delineating and utilizing "habit loop" framework: cueing environment, routine, and satisfaction. This study further integrated the habit loop framework into portfolio management game for helping elementary school students to writing and rewriting in order to cultivate good writing habit. We also proposed two design principles: portfolio visualization and management: portfolio visualization and management. The former supported cueing environment; the latter increased satisfaction; students perform their routines (e.g. writing and rewriting) in a portfolio management game.

Recently, blending learning has attracted more and more researchers attention in the field of teaching and learning. However, there are many troubles in making it clear as teaching model is suitable for specific knowledge points and there are no fixed implementing pattern. In this paper, we propose a new teaching strategy for blending learning, and divide all the knowledge into five categories, such as declarative knowledge, concept knowledge, rule knowledge, basic skill knowledge, and problem solving knowledge. Furthermore, we analyze the characteristics of each category and predict which teaching model is suitable for a specific category. Then we have carried out the proposed teaching strategy on the geography course in senior high school. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy has the great significance in educational theory and practical application.

Tujia brocade as one of the national intangible cultural heritages in China, is an outstanding representative of traditional Chinese folk handicraft. However, there are many problems with cultural resources on Tujia brocade skills, such as its distribution is not concentrated, lack of semantic organization, difficult to obtain and dissemination and so on. In view of these problems, this paper constructs a set of Tujia brocade cultural knowledge base system based on ontology, initially, we proposes a method of ontology modeling in Tujia brocade domain, and constructs the ontology model of Tujia brocade domain via using ontology technology, and then design and realize the ontology annotation, semantic association and knowledge retrieval and display functions for Tujia brocade cultural knowledge through the system demand analysis. The system has realized the reasonable organization of Tujia brocade cultural resources, it will contributes to the widespread dissemination and sharing of Tujia brocade cultural knowledge.

ICT application is the core driving force for optimizing the development of educational information system. In this paper, to explore the different influencing factors of ICT application in middle and primary schools, the following works have been done: Firstly, an exploratory factor analysis is used to classify ICT application into three dimensions. Secondly, a series of linear regression models are used to test whether ICT policy influences ICT application. Finally, by analyzing the different influencing effects in urban and rural areas, combined with the actual situation, the paper made a comparative analysis for influencing factors of ICT application between the urban and rural middle and primary schools. In this paper, we found that: 1. ICT application could be investigated from three aspects: digital educational resources, online learning and educational environment. 2. There was a certain degree of correlation between ICT application and ICT policy in schools of all regions, that is to say ICT policy can influence ICT application. 3. Because ICT application in urban and rural areas were at different stages, different school policies also affected them differently. In the conclusion, influencing factors on ICT application for schools in urban and rural areas were different, then we put forward some suggestions for ICT policy at the school- level respectively. We hope the way China coped with can provide the developing countries even underdeveloped areas, such as the African region with some feasible ideas.
