摘要:
This study explained why interpersonal injustice enacted by representatives of an authority might undermine perceived legitimacy of the actual authority. We built a moderated mediation model in which institutional trust was the mediator, and informational justice was the moderator, in the relationship between interpersonal injustice and perceived legitimacy of authority. Study 1 showed that interpersonal injustice negatively influenced perceived legitimacy of authority. Study 2 indicated that institutional trust was a significant mediator of the relationship between interpersonal injustice and perceived legitimacy of authority. Study 3 indicated that institutional trust was a significant mediator of the relationship between interpersonal injustice and perceived legitimacy of authority when an explanation was absent, whereas it was not significant when explanation was given. These findings contribute to the literature by identifying components that shape the psychological process of forming legitimacy perceptions of authority.

摘要:
Work-related use of information and communication technologies (W_ICTs) after hours has been found to have positive effects on employees’ work-related outcomes. The present study investigated the relationship between W_ICTs after hours and employees’ focus on opportunities, and examined the moderating effect of work-family centrality on this relationship. We collected questionnaire data from 299 Chinese employees. The results showed that W_ICTs after hours positively predicted employees’ focus on opportunities. Further, the positive relationship was moderated by work-family centrality such that the effect was stronger for employees with high work-family centrality. These findings contribute to a further understanding of positive effects of W_ICTs after hours on employees, and uncover important boundary conditions under which this practice might affect employees differentially.

<jats:p> As a universal workplace phenomenon, the impact of work-related rumination on job performance is attracting scholars’ attention. In the current study, the relationship between two types of work-related rumination, counterproductive behavior, and creativity at work were examined, as well as the mechanism of this association. Participants were 1109 employees from a variety of jobs in mainland China. The results showed that affective rumination was negatively associated with employees’ work creativity and positively associated with counterproductive behavior. On the contrary, problem-solving pondering was positively related to creativity and negatively related to counterproductive behavior. The loss of self-control resource partially mediated the link between affective rumination and counterproductive behavior. Problem-solving pondering had no significant impact on self-control resource. Results suggest the significant effects of problem-solving pondering may be positive in the workplace and clarify the self-control resource is the internal mechanism linking rumination and job performance. </jats:p>

摘要:
Although researchers have found that emotions affect unethical behavior, few studies have uncovered the mechanism between anxiety and unethical behavior. The present study investigated how anxiety might influence unethical behavior based on the dual-process theory. In Experiment 1, a recall writing task was used to induce anxiety, and unethical behavior was assessed during an Interaction Task. Results showed that compared with participants who felt neutral emotions, those who felt anxiety were more likely to act unethically. In Experiment 2, we induced emotions by having participants watch videos and measured unethical behavior through a visual perception task. The results replicated findings in Experiment 1 and found that intuitive and automatic processing mediated the relationship between anxiety and unethical behavior. Collectively, our work reveals that anxiety might increase unethical behavior because individuals who feel anxious are more likely to engage in intuitive automatic processing that shifts attention from moral standards to self-interest, and thus to behave unethically. Both theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed.

Many empirical studies have shown that procedural justice is the key determinant of whether an individual perceives an authority figure as legitimate. However, based on relational models of procedural justice and the uncertainty management model, there is reason to believe that the association between procedural justice and perceived legitimacy may be stronger for individuals who are uncertain about their standing as group members (moderation); this interaction might predict group identification and, in turn, perceived legitimacy (mediation). We tested this mediated moderation model in two experiments (Studies 1a and 1b) and a field study (Study 2) using different operationalizations of standing uncertainty across studies. The results of Studies 1a and 1b demonstrated that the association between procedural justice and perceived legitimacy was stronger for participants with high (vs. low) standing uncertainty. Study 2 showed that group identification mediated the association between this interaction effect and perceived legitimacy. Together, the results of the mediated moderation analysis showed that procedural justice was positively associated with perceived legitimacy through high group identification when standing uncertainty was high. The theoretical contributions and practical implications of our findings are discussed.

Work-related use of information and communication technologies after hours (W_ICTs) has been found to have an extensive and profound influence on employees work and family lives. In the current study, we examined the effect of W_ICTs on employee emotional exhaustion and investigated the underlying mechanism with two different samples. In Study 1, data from 447 Chinese college counselors showed that W_ICTs was positively associated with emotional exhaustion, but this positive relationship was weaker for individuals with higher work-home integration preference. These findings were replicated in Study 2, using a sample of 340 full-time employees from different companies in different industries in China. Further analyses showed that work schedule and location control mediated the moderating effect of work-home integration preference on the relationship between W_ICTs and emotional exhaustion. These findings provide strong support for the proposed mediated moderation model, and demonstrate the importance of adopting a needs-supplies fit perspective to understanding the influence of W_ICTs.
